Gymnastics Coach

(Full-time/Part-time/Casual options available)



Mareeba Gymnastics Club has a fully operational WAG, MAG and General Gymnastics facility in the centre of town, only 1 hour from Cairns on the Atherton Tablelands.  The club runs successful Competitive Programs in WAG & MAG, and has a thriving General Gymnastics Program for boys and girls, Under 5’s and Adults.  The club also runs community outreach programs, participates in community and school events, and offers scheduled programs during school holiday periods.


Responsible For

  • Teaching gymnastics in a fun, safe and professional way

  • Assisting with setting up fun, safe and inviting circuits and drills for classes

  • Following class and apparatus timetables in a timely manner

  • Leading warm up, cool down, strength and stretch activities

  • Explaining activities, skills, and drills to gymnasts and providing progression adjustments as needed

  • Providing “hands on” assistance and spotting as required

  • Providing ongoing feedback and encouragement to the gymnasts in a friendly, supportive way

  • Ensuring all equipment is packed away neatly in its correct place at the end of your shift and that the gym is left neat and tidy

  • Developing (or following, as per specific position title) comprehensive year plans and unit plans.

  • Developing (or following, as per specific position title) lesson plans, which work to the allocated rotations and specific requirements for gymnasts in that particular program / level.

  • Mentoring the Club’s Junior and Beginner Coaches

  • Ensuring the Club’s Policies and Procedures are followed at all times including the Club’s uniform and personal presentation policy

  • Ensuring all class attendance is taken accurately at the commencement of every class

  • Ensuring notices / information is distributed to gymnasts as required.

  • Attending Mareeba Gymnastics Club events

  • Attending competitions (as applicable)

  • Attending monthly coaches’ meetings and other special meetings with management as required

  • Striving to excel in your work and offering innovative & engaging training options

  • Engaging in regular, relevant professional development including workshops, courses and enrichment opportunities (to acquire the required GA updating points as a minimum)

  • Further your coaching and judging qualifications across both MAG and WAG disciplines and maintaining technical membership

  • Other duties as required

General Procedures

  • Coaches should arrive a minimum of 10 minutes before the start of class so that:

    • A risk assessment check can be carried out on all equipment

    • Equipment can be prepared

    • Warm-up can start on time

  • All incidental equipment used during the day is to be put away.At the end of the day equipment should be returned to its correct position

  • Meet with the days’ coaches on the gym floor at the completion of daily classes to debrief and provide necessary feedback

  • All accidents should be recorded by way of the Accident Report form and handed to the Centre Coordinator

  • Maintain work environment so as to minimise risk to both customers and staff and provide a professional and organised environment

  • Report identifiable risk so that immediate action can be taken



Minimum of Intermediate MAG or WAG Coaching qualification

(however, Beginner Coaches that have previously demonstrated passion and dedication will be considered)

Have or be eligible for a Working with Children Blue Card

Have or be willing to obtain a First Aid Certificate including CPR currency

Previous experience working with children is desired


Hours and Remuneration

Hours can vary from short afternoon shifts to full time hours.

The facility opening times are:

Monday to Friday 8.30am to 8.00pm with occasional weekends.

Rates of Pay are in accordance with the Fitness Industry Award.

Volunteer Coaching Assistant

Mareeba Gymnastics Club is a fast growing club which offers professional gymnastics tuition to the community.  We currently employ over 15 coaching staff and opportunities regularly present for more coaching and assistant coaching positions. 

I would like to extend an invitation for you to take part in our Volunteer Coaching Assistants position for 2020.  This role will provide you with unique skills, recognised qualifications and on the job experience which may lead to a paid coaching position in the future.  It is important to note that this offer is for one year, and although it is an unpaid position, your commitment and dedication must be shown. We need to see you are responsible and mature for further employment opportunities should the occasion arise in the future.

Job Description


Title: Volunteer Coaching Assistant

Reports to: Coaching Director


Summary of Position:

This position is a 1 year voluntary role (with a 3 month probation) to obtain experience and learn the duties of a Club Coach.  You will learn how to control a class, how to read and implement a lesson plan and how to teach gymnastics skills.


Duties & Responsibilities:

Volunteer Coaching Assistants will assist with the following duties:


  • Marking Rolls and keeping track of Gymnasts Class Sign in

  • Provide Basic First aid under a supervised first aid officer

  • Class Control

  • Read, follow and implement a lesson plan

  • Read and follow an apparatus timetable

  • Teach basic gymnastics skills

  • Spot basic gymnastics skills

  • Set up gymnastics circuits

  • Learn and implement safety regulations

  • How to fill in a timesheet


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Will be expected to complete online coaching related courses.  (These courses are free of charge)

  • Be reliable, honest and enthusiastic

  • Must have the ability to work well with other, follow directions and enjoy working with children.

  • Must wear black shorts, Mareeba Gymnastics Club Shirt and Joggers. (Not Supplied)

  • Have a neat and tidy appearance, with no jewelry

  • Have knowledge of the Gym Rules

  • Have an understanding of the Policies and Procedures of Mareeba Gymnastics Club

  • Attend coaches monthly meetings (2nd Thursday of every month at 6.30pm to 7.00pm)

  • Attend 3 way Monthly interviews with the Coaching Director, Parent/Guardian and Volunteer Coaching Assistant.  Interview times will be made in advanced to suit all parties.


Contract Conditions:

Days available for work experience during Queensland School Dates


Monday to Friday between the hours of 3.15am to 6.35pm.
